During Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, details have emerged about the first Star Wars standalone film Rogue One. The films synopsis comes via Star Wars Twitter account:
Here is what we know so far:
- Felicity Jones stars as a rebel soldier, and the film centers on a rogue band of resistance fighters who unite to steal the Death Star plans and bring new hope to the galaxy.
- It's interesting to note that all involved with the film are referring to the the film as an anthology film rather than a standalone film.
- The idea of the film comes from a pitch from John Knoll of ILM.
- The film takes place between Episodes III and IV, but closer to Episode IV.
- There aren't any Jedi in the film, since at this time the Jedi are pretty much extinct or in hiding since the execution of Order 66.
- The studio and filmmakers are well aware of the crossover potential between Star Wars: Rebels and this film, being that they take place in the time-frame.
- The trailer presented at Star Wars Celebration was created completely by ILM, since production has yet to begin on the film.
- Filming is set to begin in late summer in the UK andaround the globe.
- The film is to be a Star Wars film, with emphasis on the Wars part.
- The production team includes war film veterans such as; Director of Photography Greig Fraser who worked on Zero Dark Thirty, and VFX supervisor Neil Corblud who worked on Black Hawk Down and Saving Private Ryan.
Star Wars: Rogue One is slated to hit cinemas in December 2016.
